10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for a lot of us. But it should be done. As the winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve collected over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a house?
The exterior of your house could use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your house in Bowie, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of a problem, but second and third floor windows will be a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange because you’ll still be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use in the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it in the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough shape the first time you step onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Bowie. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it’s a great time to clean your roof too, but you’ll have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then let it sit. This mixture will eliminate any organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will improve your day, and will encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it for a really bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Yard tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your house much more throughout the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your house.
Eliminate weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You could probably finish all of these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Bowie Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
